The Pella Christian girls’ soccer team advanced to the Region Semi-Finals with a 5-0 victory over Centerville Tuesday night. The Eagles dominated the game as they amassed 34 shots while only allowing the Big Red 2 shots.
Christina Nolte scored 2 goals in the first half to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. Lindsey Pierson then scored at 59:30 assisted by Ashley Ambroson. Morgan DeRuiter scored the Eagles’ fourth goal at 63:15. Buffy Bouwkamp assisted on the DeRuiter goal. Finishing the scoring for the Eagles was Bri Warden, who scored at 76:00. Karianne Bolt assisted on the goal.
Shelby Sytsma led the Eagle defense with 23 defensive stops and Kayla Groenendyk recorded 20 stops. Goalkeeper Jenna Roose recorded her 5th shut-out of the season.
Eagle Coach Bill Collman was obviously pleased with his team’s effort. “We controlled the game in all phases tonight. My only complaint was that we didn’t finish well on several scoring opportunities,” said Collman. “We will have to do better on finising our scoring chances in the next round.”
The game was also significant in that it was the 100th win of the girls’ soccer program at Pella Christian. The program was started in 2001, with Coach Bill Collman as the coach since the first season and for all 100 of those Eagle wins.
“The 100th win is a nice accomplishment for this program,” noted Coach Collman. “There are only 10 or 12 schools smaller than Pella Christian that play girls’ soccer. We play in one of the top conferences in the state — with at least two or three teams ranked every year. We have had a lot of quality players contribute to those 100 wins.”
The Eagles will play at Bondurant-Farrar on Friday.
