Klompen Classic Has a Big Turnout

The Klompen Classic was last night. The race had 2309 participants this year. The overall first place winner was Zach Buchheit, a 17 year old from Pella, at a time of 16:17. Second place was Tanner Wanders of New Sharon at 16:48.The overall female winner was Casey Owens of Des Moines. Mae Reywelt was the winner of the 80-89 year old age division, with Nicholas Leydens in second. But it wasn’t just people in this year’s race. Ezekiel, a service dog, raced as well. His owner says this is the third 5k the dog has raced this year. Julie Johnson at Crossroads of Pella says this race is their biggest fundraiser, and allows them to provide funding for nonprofits in the area.
