The Klompen Classic kicked off Tulip TIme last Wednesday. There were 2309 participants in this years race. But the race is more than just a chance to compete. It is the biggest fundraiser for Crossroads of Pella. Crossroads Director Jim Hibma says the Klompen usually makes up about 20% of their budget each year. The rest of their budget is largely made up of private donations. He tells us that 19 years ago when the Classic started, there were about 200 entrants. The race grows a little each year, with this year’s race having about 100 more entrants than last year.
