The road to the State Golf Tournament begins today for many of the teams around the state, and a pair of local boys golf squads will be playing in nearby Monroe in a Class 2A Sectional Meet. The Pella Christian and PCM boys golf teams take to the Gateway Golf Course this morning in hopes of riding some recent momentum to postseason success. Pella Christian boys head coach Jim Dingeman says he feels good about the line-up he’s got put together for the postseason.

“We’ve got our spots set for the Sectional Meet and hopefully into Districts and State. We actually talked about it, and I wanted to put all the guys into spots where they were comfortable to try and get as many good scores as possible,” said Dingeman. “So we sat down and talked about it, and the guys like where they’re going to be playing, and I’m happy with the spots they’re going to be in. Hopefully they can come out and execute.”

It will be no easy task to dethrone the Mustangs, though, a team that has been dominant since the onset of the season and will be playing on their home course. PCM golfer Logan Van Veen says while his team is aware of their competition, they’ll need to stay focused on their own game to be successful.

“It’s always in the back of your mind that you have to play well, but you just have to stay confident,” said Van Veen. “You know you’re going to have a bad hole – at least once a meet – and you have to come back and battle hard from those holes. Out here [at Gateway] there’s a lot of chances for birdies, so that’s all you’ve got to do is stay confident.”

Action from the Class 2A Sectional Boys Golf Meet tees off at 9:00 a.m. this morning in Monroe.
