Though an official list of the girls and boys State Track Meet qualifiers won’t be available until later this afternoon, it’s safe to say that our local area athletes had a number of very impressive showings at Thursday night’s District Meets.

In Class 3A, District 6, Pella High rocked the competition, claiming District Championships for both the girls and the boys and earning 33 automatic qualifiers, with more potential State Meet bids still to be determined. The Lady Dutch put together a record-breaking night, as 12 events performed season bests on their way to qualifying 19 events for the State Meet and piling up an astounding 208.50 points along the way. The Pella High boys were nearly as dominant, earning 14 automatic qualifiers and tallying 190 points for the District crown.

In Class 2A, track and field squads from Pella Christian and PCM ran at Interstate-35 in Truro, with both teams putting up a number of top performances. The Pella Christian girls earned seven automatic qualifiers, with their male counterparts notching a pair of for-sure bids to the Blue Oval. Meanwhile, PCM put up plenty of gold and silver finishes as well, as the Mustang girls landed five events in the State Meet; and the boys had nine events qualify for next week’s competition in Des Moines.

An official list of qualifiers for the 2012 Coed State Track and Field Championships is expected to be released later today. Visit and stay tuned for any updates, as they become official.
