Today marks decision day for our local track and field athletes, as they’ll put their best efforts forth this evening in hopes of earning a spot in the field at this month’s 2012 Coed State Track and Field Championships.

In Class 3A, our local schools are split into a pair of separate Districts, with the Knoxville squads running at Dallas Center-Grimes, while Pella competes at Nevada. It will be an interesting meet for the Dutch, who will run against a number of programs they haven’t seen this season, like Clear Lake, Humboldt, Iowa Falls-Alden and Webster City.

In Class 2A, Pella Christian and PCM make the trip to Truro to run at Interstate-35. That meet features schools from as far east as Cardinal of Eldon, to far southwest Iowa schools like Clarinda and Shenandoah.

In Class 1A, our local girls and boys programs are all at the same meet, as Melcher-Dallas, Pleasantville and Twin Cedars will all compete in a large meet at Martensdale-St. Mary’s. That field includes plenty of talented programs, like Lynnville-Sully, North Mahaska and the host Blue Devils, among others.

All of the District Track Meets begin at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon at their respective venues.
