Off-and-on rains and mostly overcast skies were just one of the inconsistencies the Pella High boys golf team faced on the opening round of the Class 3A Boys State Golf Meet, as the Little Dutch carded a combined 335 to position themselves in seventh place. Pella head coach Bob Fessler said a lot of learning took place on the tournament’s first day, especially for his sophomores and freshmen.

Lucas Boyd lead the way for the Little Dutch, as the senior carded a 77 on his opening round. That puts him in a tie for 6th place and four shots back of leader Alex Moorman of Centerville. Boyd says it will be a lot different to go out today and play to win instead of playing not to lose.

The second and final 18 holes of the Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament tees off at 8:00 a.m. this morning at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
