Another classic on the soccer pitch between the girls programs from Pella High and Nevada unfolded Monday night, with the Cubs slipping away with a 1-0 double-overtime win. Nevada entered the match with the No. 5 ranking in Class 1A, while Pella High held the No. 3 spot in the latest Class 2A Girls Soccer poll.

The Lady Dutch outshot Nevada 11-6 in regulation, but could not find the back of the net, sending the match to overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Cubs got their second shot past goalkeeper Zoe Vermeer to earn the win. Vermeer had seven saves on the night.

The Pella girls soccer team dips to 13-3 overall on the season. They’ll host Dallas Center-Grimes Thursday night in the regular season finale.
