Central College’s Joe Dunham and Ethan Miller are the Division III Central Region’s outdoor track and field coach of the year and field events athlete of the year, chosen by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Dunham, who also received the honor in 2011, guided the men’s squad to its fourth straight Iowa Conference outdoor championship.  Miller is the division’s leader in the decathlon with 7,076 points. He was tagged the league’s field events athlete of the year at the conference meet where he won the triple jump, took runner-up honors in the long jump and placed third in the high jump. Miller captured the national decathlon crown at last year’s NCAA championships with a school-record 7,170 points. It’s the third time he’s received outdoor all-region recognition and the fifth overall. He’s a three-time outdoor league MVP.

Central is ranked ninth in Division III and nine athletes are among the top-20 in their event. The national meet is held May 24-26 at Claremont, California. Entries to the championship field will be finalized today, with the top 20 and top 22 marks being accepted to the men’s and women’s fields respectively, along with the top 16 relays.
