Zoutte’s Pitching And Clutch Hitting By Knoxville Give Panthers Win Over Pella Christian In 9 Innings

Knoxville’s four runs in the ninth inning helped propel the Panthers to a 5-1 extra inning win over Pella Christian last night in baseball. Panther freshman Jake Kendall got the got hit to break the game open in the ninth with a two out, two R-B-I double. The Panthers actually took the lead when Kevin Woodhouse, scored on a wild pitch to give Knoxville the go ahead run. In the first inning, Knoxville scored its first run when Bryant McWilliams doubled to center field and brought in Woodhouse. Both starting pitchers were on their game as Knoxville Bryce Zoutte limited Pella Christian to just three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Coach Joel Johnson said Zoutte’s mastery on the mound and the aggressive play on defense yielded another big win. While disappointed with the loss Pella Christian Baseball Coach Brad Rolffs said his pitcher Will Vande Voort was outstanding. Zoutte actually got a no decision in the game as he was pulled with the score still tied at one in the seventh inning. However, he allowed one run on just three hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Kevin Woodhouse got the win pitching 2 2/3 of an inning. Vande Voort took the hard luck loss pitching 8 2/3 innings giving up four runs on 12 hits, one walk, and nine strikeouts. Knoxville is now 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, while Pella Christian is 2-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
