It’s been a pleasant first half of the season for the Pella High baseball team, and the Little Dutch are hoping their first 16 games were just a preview of better things to come. Pella head coach Al Vasher says quite a bit of time in the first several games of the season has gone toward getting used to some new elements, and only now are they fully coming together as a unit.

“We’re really starting to learn some things about the game that we thought should have come easily a long time ago,” said Vasher. “We have a new coach this year, and he has a different philosophy on how the game gets played, and having to learn that was new. Of course the players – Ryan Shull is new this year, he moved here from Mount Pleasant in November – so all of the sudden you’ve got a new ballplayer in there that hasn’t been playing the last couple years. We’re just really starting to come together as a team.”

The Pella High baseball team is 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll face league foe Newton on Monday in a game at Pella High.
