The first-ever Alumni Football Game between Knoxville and PCM takes place tonight in Monroe, and the current head football coaches from both high schools couldn’t be more excited. Knoxville’s Troy Rider says he’s hopeful for supporters of the athletic programs at both schools to come out and enjoy what should be a thoroughly entertaining night on the gridiron and will help raise money for their respective teams. On the other sideline, PCM’s Greg Bonnett says the night should be a lot of fun for both schools and will probably provide a few laughs along the way.
“It’s going to be in good spirit. I predict after about four or five plays into it there’s going to be some guys tapping helmets, wanting out, and I think the speed of the game is really going to slow down after those first four reps,” said Bonnett. “I think it’s going to be a great time. I hope everyone has a good time and I hope nobody gets injured too badly. Beating Knoxville’s alumni team is not my priority, whatsoever. I just want to have fun. It’s not going to be a competitive deal in terms of a win or a loss, but man, it’s going to be a good time.”
Alumni Football USA is the organization that helped assemble the event, and a portion of the gate receipt will go to each school. As part of the fundraiser, the event will also feature a raffle for a flat-screen TV, and Playstation 3 and other prizes. Kick-off of the Knoxville vs. PCM Alumni football game is set for 7:00 p.m. tonight at PCM High School in Monroe.
