A key early-season week lies in front of the PCM baseball team, as the Mustangs will try and keep their momentum moving forward during a stretch of four games in four days. That stretch starts tonight at Collins-Maxwell/Baxter, and while PCM certainly wants to pick up a conference win over the Raiders, it’s the following games against Gilbert and at North Polk that head coach Shawn Hudnut has his eyes on.
“We talk to the kids about taking each game a pitch at a time, so we don’t want to overlook CMB on Monday. We have to take care of business with them,” said Hudnut. “Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be big nights for us, because we’re going to have Gilbert – who’s going to be a contender in the conference – and then North Polk, who a lot of people would have to consider the favorite in our conference. Both of those are going to be big games for us as sort of a measuring stick to see where we’re at right now, and we’ll have some kind of determination on the outcome of the conference title as well.”
Hudnut says he certainly wants his team focused for CMB, but recognizes that the following match-ups with the Tigers and Comets will serve as a measuring stick for his squad and could give an early look at how the Heart of Iowa Conference race will break down.
