Senior night was a memorable one for Pella High’s Lindsey Mueller, as she delivered a rip through the infield in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a 5-4 comeback win for the Lady Dutch over Pella Christian. The Lady Eagles held the advantage early on, though, scoring two runs in both the first and third innings to hold a 4-0 lead through four innings. Pella High got the bats rolling in the fifth and pulled to within 4-3, but both teams were held scoreless in the sixth inning – setting up high drama for the final frame.

After Sierra Williams got on base with a single, Allie DeMeulenaere’s bunt was overthrown – putting runners on second and third for the Lady Dutch with no outs. Pella Christian elected to intentionally walk the next batter, but a violation was called for the catcher stepping outside of the far batters box to catch the pitch, and Williams was was granted a pass home to tie the game and ultimately set the stage for Mueller to play the hero.

One of just two seniors for Pella, Mueller finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI, and Williams was 2-for-3 with a single. A total of eight hits by the Lady Dutch came in support of pitcher Bri Arkema, who allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out five batters, while walking none. Pella Christian was led by their own senior, as Sami Veenstra was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Lady Eagles’ pitcher Shannon Fynaardt took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out four Pella batters.

The Lady Dutch are now 17-10 overall and 6-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, entering a game Friday with Knoxville; while Pella Christian dips to 6-20 overall and 3-7 in league play. They’re back on the diamond tonight in Knoxville in a game that will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS.
