Oskaloosa’s bats packed too much pop for the Pella High softball team to keep up with on Monday night, as the Indians used 15 hits to roll up a 9-0 conference victory. A three-run home run by the Indians’ Peyton Zickefoose broke open a close game in the third inning, and Oskaloosa would continue to cruise from that point on.

“They [Oskaloosa] were extremely aggressive at the plate. They were swinging at everything, everywhere, and everything that their bats touched was hard. Even the foul balls and what you would say were ‘easy outs’ were not easy outs,” said Pella High head coach Krista DeMeulenaere after the game.

“They put a lot of pressure on us, and like I told the girls after the game, the good thing about it is we get to play them again. So hopefully we’ll bounce back and be able to respond better next time we play them.”

Pella was held to just three hits on the night, while pitcher Bri Arkema took the complete game loss. The Lady Dutch slip to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll travel to Centerville tonight for a non-conference clash with the Big Red.
