After running into a Class 5A buzz saw in a 10-0 loss to Urbandale, the Pella Christian softball team rebounded to battle to a hard-fought 3-2 loss against Vinton-Shellsburg during Friday’s play at the Urbandale Softball Invite.  The Jayhawks were a handful in the opener, wrapping up the game in six innings, as Lady Eagles starting pitcher Shannon Fynaardt took the loss.

Pella Christian’s bats came to life in their second contest, though, with Sami Veenstra going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored; and Tessa Howerzyl going 2-for-4 with a run as well.  Taylor Hartson pitched in the loss to Vinton-Shellsburg, which went eight innings before being decided by just one run.

The Lady Eagles return to the Tulip City today for more tournament play, as they’ll be hosting their own invitational that will feature games at both Pella Christian and Pella High.
