The first of a very tough stretch of upcoming games for the Pella Christian softball team began with a loss, as the Lady Eagles were shut down 11-0 in six innings Thursday night by Newton. Making contact with the ball was not a problem for the Pella Christian offense, but finding gaps in the Cardinals’ defense was.

Lauren Jungling went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Eagles, while Sami Veenstra and India Sarver each went 1-for-3. Sarver also tallied a stolen base. Starting pitcher Shannon Fynaardt was tagged with the loss, as Pella Christian drops to 5-15 overall and 3-5 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll play in a tournament at Urbandale today before facing more tough competition at their home softball invite on Saturday.
