Less than 24 hours removed from a nightmarish, 9-error loss to Lynnville-Sully, the Pella Christian softball team put together arguably their best game of the season, stunning Little Hawkeye Conference front-runner Oskaloosa 6-5 in Pella. The Lady Eagles tattooed Indians’ starter Kristelle Slycord, with Tessa Howerzyl again leading the way. Howerzyl went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Right behind her were Jenna Roose, Sami Veenstra, Paige Engbers and Lauren Jungling – who all went 2-for-4 at the plate.
In the circle, Pella Christian head coach Nate Van Wyk went with a two-headed attack; pitching Shannon Fynaardt for 4 ⅓ innings, then inserting Taylor Hartson to close out the contest. The Lady Eagles are 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference. They’ve got the weekend off before opening up a full slate on Monday against Pella High.
