Just one opponent stands between the Pella High girls soccer team and a much anticipated return trip to the Class 2A Girls State Soccer Tournament.  The Lady Dutch host Mount Pleasant in tonight’s Regional Final, and coach Mark Howard says while his team is very confident in their ability to win, they are by no means overlooking the Mustangs.

“If we come out and play like we’re capable of, I’m very confident that we can win that game and go on to state,” said Howard. “As a group, we’ve talked about our opportunities that we have here. I think it would be the first time the girls and boys soccer programs went to State in the same year, and I think that’s our goal.”

Howard is serving as head coach for the remainder of the season while Sam Mate-Kodjo is away on a trip to Africa.  The No. 5-ranked Pella High girls soccer team is 15-3 after last week’s 10-0 beatdown of Chariton in the Regional Semifinals; while Mount Pleasant is 11-8 after defeating Oskaloosa 3-0.  The Class 2A Regional Final is being held at the Pella Soccer Complex at 6:00 p.m. this evening.
