The Pella Christian baseball team showed they could win a close game or run away with a victory in Monday night’s doubleheader sweep of Oskaloosa; as the Eagles claimed a 19-8 game one victory, followed by a 6-5 win in the late game.

Josh VanGorp pitched for the win in the opener, allowing no runs on two hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six innings of work. His effort was backed up at the plate by a host of teammates – notably Coltin Collins, who went 6-for-6 with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Every player in the lineup had two or more hits in the opening game win.

The nightcap was much more defensive, with Pella Christian’s Andrew Vander Hart earning the win; as he allowed two runs – both unearned – on two hits and two walks, while striking out four Oskaloosa batters in four innings of work. Seniors Dan Hessing and Jordan Rossler led the way in the batter’s box, as they went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively.

After entering Saturday’s game against Pella High on a ten-game losing skid, the Pella Christian baseball team has now won three straight; improving to 7-16 overall and 3-9 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They’ll get in a league make-up at Knoxville tonight, which can be heard live on 92.1 fm KRLS and on AM 1320 KNIA.
