After a day of well-deserved rest on Monday, the Pella Christian softball team returns to competition on the diamond today in what will begin a grueling stretch of regional opponents. The Lady Eagles face two of the Little Hawkeye Conference’s stronger teams – Oskaloosa and Newton – along with a ranked Lynnville-Sully squad.

Pella Christian head coach Nate Van Wyk says while the schedule is not doing any favors for his young team, they are recognizing that the only way to improve is to play the best teams they can.

“That’s what we want. You get better by playing the good teams,” said Van Wyk. “Not only is it good for the game of softball, but I think it’s good for our team; because it lets them know if they want to be a top team – if they want to be a team that does things in Districts and makes it to the State Tournament – this is what you’re going to have to do.”

The Lady Eagles are at Colfax-Mingo tonight in a varsity game that starts at 7:00 p.m.
