Twin Cedars held off a late Pleasantville charge to snag a 3-1 non-conference softball match-up between the two Marion County schools Wednesday night. The Trojans added their only run in the top of the seventh, and had runners on first and second bases when the final out landed in the glove of Sabers’ shortstop Alee Hugen.

“Coach Friday has those girls playing pretty well right now, and Liz Moore pitched tough for them tonight,” said Twin Cedars head coach Zack Dunkin. “We were ahead, really the whole game, but it was nice to pull away at the end.”

In the other dugout, Pleasantville head coach Robert Friday says his young team is building confidence, but needs to play with the same drive throughout the entire contest.

“We showed some young mistakes, but realized that we can stay with them if we come ready to play,” said Friday. You’ve got to come to the park ready to play every night, and I don’t think we started off believing that – but we ended up ending that way. The middle innings is where we’ve got to have it.”

Sabers’ pitcher Morgan Rozenboom earned the win, allowing just two hits, striking out two and walking one. Payton Fee went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Twin Cedars, while Brittany Roby added a pair of steals to her 1-for-2 performance. The win bumps the Twin Cedars softball team to 9-6 overall, while Pleasantville dips to 4-7.
