The body of Derek Long has been found near Dutchman’s Landing. The Pella Police Department received a call from a woman who lives on the lake at about 6:20 Wednesday morning. She was walking her dog near Lake Red Rock when she saw the body. Area Emergency crews have been working to locate the body of Derek Long, who drowned in Lake Red Rock, since Sunday and were joined by a regional dive team on Tuesday. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Pella Ambulance responded to the scene and recovered the body.

On 7/25/2012 at 6:24 am, a resident of Dutchman’s Landing south called the Marion County
Sheriff’s Office to report that she was walking her dog along lake Red Rock and found the
missing boater. Deputies and Pella rescue responded and temporarily identified the body as that
of Derek Long, the missing boater from Sunday afternoon. A short time later it was confirmed
that it was, in fact, Mr. Long.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the volunteers and all of the
businesses in Pella and Knoxville for supplying food and drink for all of the search teams. Also,
