The exhilarating run through the postseason continues tonight for the Pella High baseball team, as the Little Dutch have the chance to reach the Class 3A State Baseball Tournament with one more win tonight. That accomplishment would be no small feat, though, as Pella puts its 19-16 record up against top-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes – a squad that is 32-2 and riding a 19-game win streak that extends back to June 12th.

While those numbers certainly aren’t in their favor, Little Dutch head coach Al Vasher says his team has no plans on letting the Mustangs gallop right past them and into Principal Park.

“We have the match-up on the mound we want with Jacob [Gleason] going. I know that they’re probably going to throw [Tyler] Peyton at us. They want this Substate game just as much as we do,” said Vasher.

“They’re number one in the state for a reason – they probably feel like they’ve earned that – and they want that game and want to prove to everybody why they’re number one. They probably feel like they need to come out and make a statement a little bit, and we’re going to see what we can’t do about slowing them down.”

Tonight’s Class 3A Substate Final will be the second time this season the two programs have faced each other, as Dallas Center-Grimes claimed a 12-3 win over Pella earlier this season in a tournament at Knoxville.

Coverage of tonight’s game will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS with Eric Gotschall and Chad Whitten live in Norwalk for the play-by-play; starting with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m.
