The drought is beginning to affect Pella’s water supplies. Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert says that if Pella doesn’t get rain within the week, the city will have to tap into a deeper, seldom used water source, the Jordan aquifer. He says if that new well is used the water may have a different taste and odor, but is safe to drink as it is treated the same way as water from other sources. Buyert says if the drought continues the city may need to adopt some water conservations methods that other Iowa cities have already begun to use.
