Yet another installation in the storied rivalry between Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars will play out on the diamond in Bussey tonight, as the Bluegrass Conference rivals clash in the Class 1A Regional Softball Quarterfinals. The Saints and Sabers split the regular season series; with Melcher-Dallas winning 7-6 in Bussey early in the season, and Twin Cedars responding with a 4-3 road win on June 14th.

In an interview featured on this week’s Marion County PM Sports Page program, Sabers’ senior catcher Brooke Dunkin said she expects another close match-up between the two Marion County programs, but likes her teams odds if they continue to play at the level they’ve shown they’re capable of in recent games.

“If we have the defense we had when we played at Melcher-Dallas, it should be a good game; and we really need to step up what we do with our bats, like we have lately,” said Dunkin. “They play their best game against us every time they play, so we have to be ready for that.”

The opening pitch between Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas in the Class 1A Regional Softball Quarterfinals is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight in Bussey.
