The Knoxville Football Squad got the new season off on a good note with a 42-28 win over P-C-M last night. The Mustangs looked as if they would blow the game open early with two quick scores in the first quarter on touchdown passes from Nate VandeWall to go up 14-0 in the first six minutes of the game. However, Knoxville would outscore the Mustangs 42-14 the rest of the way. The Panthers got on the board when Reed Long punched the ball in from three yards out, then Derek Glover helped tie the score on a 32 yard pass from Gerrit Davis who had to scramble for his life to find Glover on the right sideline. The two teams were not done scoring in the second half as Knoxville made it 21-14 on a Ryan Douglas 62 yard pass from Davis to give Knoxville a lead it would never give up. P-C-M’s Michael Neff made it 21-20 on a nine yard toss by VandeWall. Knoxville would then shut the door on Colton Spaur T-D runs of two and 37 yards and Reed Long scampered 20 yards for the other score. After the game Knoxville Coach Troy Rider praised his team’s resiliency after getting down at the start. Unofficially Colton Spaur had 180 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns for Knoxville. While Gerrit Davis in his first varsity start had 123 yards passing and threw for two touchdowns. VandeWall and Ethan Kain hooked up several times on third or fourth and long to convert. Knoxville is 1-0 on the season while P-C-M falls to 1-1, Knoxville takes on Newton next Saturday while P-C-M travels to Pella Christian.
