A biplane traveling to an antique aircraft show in Blakesburg had to make an emergency landing on Highway 5/92 yesterday morning after an engine malfunction. Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat tells KNIA/KRLS News that the plane’s engine cut off abruptly over Marion County, forcing the emergency landing about a half-mile west of Knoxville.

Goemaat says that the Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police Department, and Knoxville Fire & Rescue immediately responded and secured the scene. They then contacted the Federal Aviation Administration, who gave them the clearance to tow the biplane back to the Knoxville Municipal Airport. No injuries were reported from the emergency landing, and there was no physical damage to the plane. The plane was flying from Spokane, Washington.

Goemaat says that other than a helicopter going down near Pleasantville earlier this summer, they haven’t had many emergency aircraft landings in recent memory.
