The Central College athletics department prides itself on having some of the best facilities – not only in the Iowa Conference – but in the region. The Dutch soccer programs are looking to take that pride a step further with a plan to install permanent seating at the soccer field.

Central men’s soccer coach Garry Laidlaw says he’s excited about the prospect of adding more to a facility that he thinks is already amongst the best in the midwest.

“The one thing that we’ve lacked is a permanent sort of seating structure, and so we’ve had an extremely generous gift come from one of our parents to give us the lead on this $300,000 project to put some permanent seating into the side of the hill that already exists,” says Laidlaw. “That gives the fans a great sight-line for the match.”

The first phase of the project would take shape in the summer of 2013, with plans for future phases to continue to grow the soccer complex at Central College.

More information on the project is available at www.Central.edu/go/soccer; but fans and supporters of the Dutch soccer program can also learn more this weekend. The annual alumni games will take place at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday with all members of the community invited to attend.
