Highly successful Des Moines Christian High School coach Dave Stubbs has joined the Central College men’s basketball staff as assistant coach under new head coach Craig Douma.

Stubbs piloted the Des Moines Christian High School boys’ squad for six years, posting a lofty 129-20 record with five conference championships and two state tournament appearances. He won district coach of the year honors four times. This past year he served as head girls’ coach at the school and the Lions compiled a 19-5 mark.

From 2007-09 he was also the head coach of the All-Iowa Attack AAU team, leading the squad to the national tournament semifinals four times. Earlier he founded the Iowa Defenders AAU program, serving as head coach from 1999-2006. The Defenders reached the national semifinals twice and the final 16 four times. A graduate of Westmont College in California, Stubbs earned a master’s degree at Concordia University.

Stubbs joins a Central program which has captured 16 Iowa Conference titles, including the 2010 crown. Central’s nine NCAA Division III tournament appearances are the most of any league school. The Dutch return 11 letterwinners from last year’s 18-8 squad.
