The Central College men’s soccer team has been tabbed by Iowa Conference coaches to finish fifth in the ultra-competitive league race this season.

Loras College, which won five consecutive Iowa Conference titles before a runner-up finish a year ago, is the favorite to win the league soccer title.  Defending champion Luther garnered the remaining first-place votes, followed by Wartburg and the University of Dubuque.  The Duhawks and the Norse are each ranked the the top 20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll.

Central College was 10-8-1 a season ago and 3-4-1 in the league race. Head coach Garry Laidlaw has to replace six senior starters, but had the fortune of building a deep and talented team last year that should be more than up to the task.  The Dutch open their season on September 1st and will begin Iowa Conference play on September 22nd – when they host Luther.
