Though the recent rise in temperatures and humidity levels has forced them to change venues, the Pella High volleyball team has still been getting in practice time in preparation for their next competition. The Pella Middle School was the site for Wednesday’s workouts, and the Lady Dutch will likely do the same again today.

Pella is working toward a strong showing at Saturday’s tournament at Iowa City High, where they’ll get another chance to face some large school competition – something junior captain Regan Nelson says only makes their team better.

“It’s been a lot of fun just to play different higher-level teams and to come out and see what we can do against them,” said Nelson. “It’s a big learning experience, just because of the different shots they can hit and learning how to defend a lot of different things that sometimes we just don’t see in practice. It just prepares us for the competition that we’ll face later on.”

The Pella High volleyball team is 3-5 overall this season and will face Davis County, North Scott and host Iowa City High on Saturday.
