The Knoxville School District is assessing all options when it comes to future conference alignment for high school athletics and fine arts. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says that they’ve had informal talks with the South Central Conference, who are interested in adding Knoxville as a member. Knoxville was a member of the South Central Conference up until the mid-90s and still plays a number of former conference opponents there, including Chariton, Centerville, and Albia.

Knoxville currently plays in the Little Hawkeye Conference, but their declining enrollment means they may not be able to keep in numbers with schools like Norwalk, Newton, or Dallas Center-Grimes. Dr. Flack says that any decision will not be made for some time, and they definitely want public input on the issue. A

n informal survey of coaches by Athletic Director Randy Wilson shows they think that competitively, it may be worth considering moving to a conference with smaller schools. The South Central Conference also offers many of the same fine art competitions that the Little Hawkeye Conference currently offers.
