With more than a week between varsity competitions, the Pella Christian volleyball team has been able to spend this week building on the positives from their first contests of the season and also making some adjustments in their positions and rotations. Lady Eagles’ head coach Cindy Nikkel says as the team continues to evolve, it’s been important for her players to grasp what their coaches – and teammates – need them to do on the floor.

“The biggest things is they’re starting to accept their roles. They weren’t sure what their roles were going to be – it was a brand new year with one returning player on the court and Jora [Vander Hart] had played some back row – so we knew there was a lot to get figured out,” said Nikkel.

“We, as coaches, are still going through the process – even this week – on making some decisions of who’s playing what position. They’re starting to understand what’s important and what the team needs, and that’s a huge development.”

The Pella Christian volleyball team is 1-4 overall after running a gauntlet of ranked programs at last Saturday’s Ames Invitational. They’ll face yet another large school on Tuesday night when 5A Marshalltown comes to Pella.
