Yet another classic Melcher-Dallas/Twin Cedars clash unfolded on the football field in Bussey Friday night, as the Saints pulled away in the second half to claim a 44-28 win. The Sabers gave themselves more than the puncher’s chance many thought they had, though, battling to within 16-8 at halftime and pulling as close as 30-28 in the third quarter.

Melcher-Dallas relied upon their ground attack – namely Trent Flesher – to pull away late in the game, as Flesher had 189 of his 220 yards in the final two quarters. He finished with five rushing touchdowns and also threw a 46-yard halfback pass to Kenneth Wadle to give the Saints the lead before halftime.

Twin Cedars, meanwhile, showed a vast improvement from the previous week. Junior quarterback Brent Parker had one of his top outings as a varsity quarterback, throwing for over 303 yards – most of them to Levi Jones and Otis Roby. The Saints are now 2-0 on the season and continue District 5 play at home next Friday against Seymour. Twin Cedars slips to 0-2 to start the season and will look for their first win at Wayne.
