Today is the final day of round-robin competition for the Senior All-Star baseball games, which began earlier this week in Clinton, Iowa. Pleasantville head baseball coach Sheldon Card is leading the “Small Schools-East” squad, and says for many of his players, the all-star game provides a chance to end their season with some happy memories.

“I think it’s great, just because some of these kids have been done playing ball for two weeks, and it gives them a chance to finish their high school senior season. Because most likely it didn’t end like they wanted it to,” said Card. “This gives them that chance to just go away and have fun, and play with fifteen other guys that are the top kids in the state; and gives them a chance just to put something together and have a lot of fun playing baseball.”

Card’s team is comprised of sixteen seniors from throughout the eastern portion of the state from Class 1A to 3A schools. Along with playing a comparable team from the western side of Iowa, the all-star games also feature large school teams – made up of seniors from 4A programs. On Sunday the four-day stretch of games and practices will end with a championship and consolation game, based on the teams’ performances against each other in the prior days.
