The Pleasantville Trojans hung with the Rockets of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for three quarters, but the Rockets pulled away late for a 36 – 15 win in week one of the 2012 high school football season. Rockets Quarterback Trevor Swartz threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, both to Cory Archer. It was a flag-filled game, with the Rockets racking up over 100 yards in accepted penalties, which helped keep the Trojans in the game. Pleasantville took their final lead of the game with about two minutes to go in the third, on a diving touchdown grab by Matt Prill. An unsportsmanlike penalty called against the Trojans pushed their extra point attempt back to the 17. Pleasantville head coach Gabe Bakker decided to go for two, and quarterback Hagan Fouch floated a lob pass to the end zone, where Prill was awaiting it and came down with it for a 15 – 14 lead. Trojans defense, which played well through the first three quarters, were unable to stop the running game of Dillon Pigsley and Jeren Glosser on the Rockets side in the fourth quarter, as they scored three unanswered touchdowns to win 36 – 15. Trojans are 0 – 1 and will play their home opener next Friday against Martinsdale-St. Mary’s.
