The role of weightlifting is becoming increasingly prevalent in high school girls athletics, and PCM is making sure to keep themselves in front of the curve.  Head volleyball coach Mike Vittetoe says his athletes have been taking part in a newly-crafted program at PCM, thanks to the support of the school’s booster club.

“We just started a female-only training program.  We’ve always had a training program, but the males and females were together, and the girls were kind of tentative about lifting weights and training with the guys,” said Vittetoe.

“The Booster Club stepped up and hired someone to take over the female training program.  Bridget Burns is heading that up – who was a former coach of mine – and she’s a nice job with the girls.  The girls are showing up for that three times a week and they’re working hard.”

The PCM volleyball team is currently preparing for the upcoming season, which begins on Tuesday, August 21st, when they compete in a tournament at Dallas Center-Grimes.
