Allergies Hitting Hard this Fall

A runny nose, scratchy throat, watery eyes – all are symptoms of the season for many people who suffer through fall allergies. Dr. Bryan Schaffer at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics says allergies this time of year are typically caused by molds and ragweed that release histamine in the nasal passages. The easiest way to dull the symptoms is to take anti-histamines, though Dr. Schaffer adds that non-medicated saline nasal sprays have also proven to be effective for some people.

If symptoms persist after the use of over-the-counter medications, Dr. Schaffer says to see your physician. He notes that this season seems to be particularly bad for people, and adds it probably won’t end until we get our first hard frost.
