The Central College women’s golf team stands on top of the six-team field after the first round of the 36-hole Central Fall Invitational Friday. The squad walked away with a team score of 345, four strokes ahead of Grinnell College. The final round kicks off this morning at the Bos Landen Golf Club in Pella.

The Central College men’s and women’s soccer team’s, women’s golf squad and volleyball program were all in action on Friday. Here’s how what will be a busy weekend for Central College athletics got started:

After losing to Millikin last year, the Central College women’s soccer team was ready to take on the challenge and an early first-half push gave the Dutch the edge with a 3-1 win on Friday.
All three goals came in the first period, and a light wind gave the Dutch an advantage. The Dutch take on Hamline today in Pella.

The Central College men’s soccer team blanked Millikin University 2-0 Friday. Central outshot the Big Blue 20-8, and goalkeepers Travis Yets and Connor Ginder teamed to pitch the shutout for the Dutch. The Central men’s soccer team is now 2-1-1 on the season and have a quick turnaround, hosting Illinois Wesleyan today in Pella.

The Central College volleyball team scored its first season victory at the Bethel Invitational Friday, sweeping Northland 3-0. The Dutch later lost a two-set lead over Carleton, falling 3-2. The Dutch are 1-5 on the season and will face Martin Luther and host Bethel as the tournament continues today.
