After four weeks of non-district games against a gauntlet of opponents, the PCM football team gets a fresh start at the season with tonight’s Class 2A District 6 opener at home against CMB. The Mustangs are 1-3 overall following last week’s 41-21 loss at West Marshall and face a Raiders team that – much like PCM – is short on experience, but long on talented players.

Mustangs’ head football coach Greg Bonnett says tonight serves as a fresh start for his team after a very difficult opening four-game stretch.

“We knew coming in that it was a daily improvement, and we knew that we were going to walk through the fire all the games we played before districts. That’s nothing new to us,” said Bonnett.

“We’re fortunate we weren’t 0-4 coming out of there. We’re 1-3 right now, and we’ve played some pretty good football teams. We’ve got some pretty good football teams left to play, but we feel like we’re playing our best football right now. We’re going to continue to improve every single week, and they [our players] know this is the time where you have to do it, because if you win these games you go to the playoffs; if you lose them, you don’t.”

CMB is also 1-3, but lost their first district game last week in a 62-21 blowout at Bondurant-Farrar. Tonight’s PCM football game will be streamed live at kniakrls.com with Justin Webster and Brian Hazelton teaming up for the play-by-play. Coverage from Monroe begins at 7:00 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
