Central College’s soccer programs try and build on the momentum achieved this weekend with a pair of non-conference matches today.

The women’s program is riding a historic six-game win streak that most recently saw the Dutch claim a 1-0 win over Luther College on Saturday.  The Central women’s soccer team is 8-2 overall and travels to Des Moines today to face Grandview University.

The men’s team also secured a 1-0 victory over the Norse on Saturday in the Iowa Conference opener – a win that snapped a three match losing skid to some top-tier programs.  Today they’ll host Culver-Stockton of Missouri for the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

In an interview featured on Monday night’s Central College Radio Coaches’ Corner program, head coach Garry Laidlaw said today’s match will be a great opportunity to further build depth on his roster.

“I think that you will see us go quite deeply into our bench, and that’s going to be a great chance for some of these guys that don’t start to show us that they are ready to come in,” said Laidlaw.

“Having said that, I think we had a lot of players come in and give us quality minutes on [Saturday].  We’ve known all year that our bench is good, and they’re going to lift the team and give us good minutes.”

The Central College men’s soccer team is 3-4-1 overall and hits the pitch at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon in Pella.
