The Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News that in July a Knoxville Police Officer stopped a vehicle on S. Lincoln driven by Daniel Pope for numerous traffic violations. As a result of this traffic stop and a subsequent investigation, Mr. Pope was arrested and charged with the traffic violations and numerous drug violations. Officers recovered two firearms and ammunition from the vehicle and Mr. Pope’s persons as well. Mr. Pope is a repeat convicted felon and is not supposed to be in possession of firearms or ammunition.

Earlier this week the federal court in Des Moines indicted Mr. Pope on the weapons charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Mr. Pope was arrested shortly after the warrant was issued. When arrested, Mr. Pope had ammunition on his person.

The day after Mr. Pope was arrested on the federal warrant, the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms) with assistance from the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Drug Task Force (MINE) and the KPD served a federal search warrant on Mr. Popes home in Knoxville. As a result of the search warrant at Mr. Popes home, firearms and ammunition were seized.

A PD spokesperson told KNIA/KRLS that the Knoxville Police Department would like to take this opportunity to thank the ATF for assisting with this case and for allowing the KPD to assist with the search warrant. The KPD would also like to thank MINE for their assistance with the search warrant. They would also like to thank both agencies for helping keep our city safe.
