Lynnville-Sully Spoils Pleasantville Homecoming in Rout

Bailey Samson rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Cale Van Wyk passed for two more, as the Hawks of Lynnville-Sully bulldozed the Pleasantville Trojans last night by a final score of 70 – 0. Pleasantville seemed to have seized momentum early in the second quarter, after they sacked Van Wyk on two consecutive plays leading to a turnover on downs deep in Trojan territory. After a couple first downs, Pleasantville was forced to punt, and the ball ended up in the hands of Samson, who returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. Pleasantville head coach, Gabe Bakker, said that the key to stopping the Hawks on that drive was his defense not giving up. “I think the biggest deal was just effort,” Bakker said. “I think we brought some heat and some pressure with our linebackers and brought a six-man pressure, and our kids got there. They saw the ball and they went after it, and I think we need that more often.” The loss drops the Trojans to 0 – 6 on the year with an 0 – 4 tally in Class A District 6. Pleasantville’s “difficult” part of their schedule is over, as they’ll be playing their next three games against teams with a combined 3 – 14 record. Next up on the schedule is a trip to North Mahaska, New Sharon.
