A strong start and finish bookended a determined – and sometimes nerve-wracking – performance by the Pella High volleyball team Tuesday night in a 3-2 home win over Dallas Center-Grimes.

The Lady Dutch opened the night with a 25-20 win, then fell 26-24 and 25-21 in games two and three. With their backs against the wall, Pella rallied late in the fourth set to notch a 25-23 victory; then rode that momentum to a 10-1 start to the final game, before eventually closing out 15-10.

It was a big night for freshman McKenna Bogaard, who led the Lady Dutch with 12 kills, 2 blocks, and was 15-of-16 serving with 4 aces. Taelor Rempe led the team in digs with 30, and Regan Nelson spread around a team-best 22 assists.

The win pulls the Pella High volleyball team to 5-7 overall. They’ll open Little Hawkeye Conference play on Thursday against Oskaloosa.
