The Pleasantville football team is still trying to pick up their first win of the young football season, and in the process, get more players up to the game speed of varsity football. With so many players being counted on to play on both sides of the ball – and on special teams – Trojans’ head football coach Gabe Bakker says his staff is looking for ways to make the roster feel a little deeper.

“We’re trying to see which young kids can help us out where. It’s still early in the year and we’re trying to figure out where everybody goes,” said Bakker. “A couple of the kids that have performed well in the JV games are getting looks in practices and in games, and we’ve just got to try and continue to get as much depth as we can so we can get kids a break every now and then.”

Pleasantville’s fourth try at earning a victory will be far from a gimme, as the Trojans will host a Pekin Panthers squad that is the only team in Class A District 6 to have gone unbeaten through its first three games. Live coverage of Friday night’s game in Pleasantville will be streamed on kniakrls.com.
