Sabers’ Coach says Tackling Better, Still in Need of Work

Entering last week’s contest against Meskwaki Settlement, the Twin Cedars football team was emphasizing better fundamentals in their tackling. While the Sabers did enough things right to come away with a 63-28 victory over the Warriors, there were certainly some concerns about the team’s coverage on special teams.

“One aspect of the game that we’re definitely going to need to work on is our kickoff [coverage]. They [Meskwaki] did actually run kickoffs back for touchdowns for two of their scores, so obviously we didn’t tackle very well on that. We’ll clean that up,” said Sabers’ head coach Aaron Allspach. “I thought our defense played well – we were in position – but it’s going to be a different test [against H-L-V]; so we’re really going to find out how good our defense can be.”

Twin Cedars’ win this past week lifted the Sabers to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Eight-Man District 5. They’ll have their work cut out for them this Friday night, as they take on unbeaten H-L-V.
