The Little Dutch Boys cross country team cruised to a first place victory, while the girls took fourth at last night’s meet at Norwalk. The Pella boys’ team was able to get the win, despite five of their top runners getting the night off from competition. The No. 3-ranked Little Dutch finished with 44 points, well ahead of number six Grinnell with 65 points, and Newton who finished third with 76. Keegan Fitzsimmons was the individual champion, finishing the course in a time of 17:06. Aaron Houtz was 7th, Ben Warner came in at 8th, Michael Etnyre was 12th, and Adam Sievers earned 16th. Even though their times didn’t count towards the team score, Pella’s 6th and 7th varsity squad runners still finished in the top 20. On the girls’ side, the Lady Dutch finished fourth to Southeast Polk, Grinnell, and Winterset. The girls’ top three runners – Gabi Meirick, Victoria Kleven, and Abby Fyfe – did not run. Leading the way for the Lady Dutch was Ashley Kirkland, who finished 10th with a time of 16:58. Other notable finishers for the Pella girls include Sydney Swanson at 20th, Hannah Pickett 21st, and Becky Visser coming in at 37th. Up next for the Little Dutch Cross Country team is the Conference Meet at Oskaloosa on Monday.
