The Knoxville Football Squad broke a four game losing streak in impressive fashion last night in Chariton by jumping out to a 27-0 lead and coasting to a 34-8 victory over the Chargers. Knoxville set the tone early with an 80 yard drive on the game’s first series to go up 7-0 when Colton Spaur capped the drive on a one-yard run. Knoxville would take complete control of the game in the second stanza putting up 20 points to hold a 27-0 advantage at the half. The play of the game came with just over two minutes left in the first half with Chariton punting deep in its own territory. The punter appeared to slip on his follow-through and the ball only traveled around 20 yards. Spaur picked up the loose ball at the Chariton 32 ran across the field and found an opening down the right sideline to scored untouched. Knoxville would tack on another score in the fourth quarter to complete the Panthers’ scoring. While the offense caught fire, Coach Troy Rider was quick to credit the defense for shutting down the Chargers. The defense held Chariton to 117 yards of total offense while churning up 252 including 186 on the ground led by Colton Spaur’s 108 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Tanner Dunkin who played quarterback for the entire second half scored the other two touchdowns one on a reception and the other on an option run. Knoxville improves to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in Class 3A District eight will host Norwalk next week.
