After making fans wait nearly 24 hours to resume play…the Knoxville Football Squad lived by the saying “Good things come to those that wait” by surprising Norwalk Saturday night 15-12. Resuming the game with 6:47 seconds left in the first quarter and Norwalk leading 6-0, the Panthers scored when Gerrit Davis found a wide open Tanner Dunkin for a 69 yard touchdown pass on a third down play to make it 7-6. Norwalk would answer with the ensuing drive to make the halftime score 12-7. However, if there was literal lightning on Friday night, Ryan Douglas provided the figurative bolt with an 88 yard touchdown on second half kickoff, Dunkin then found Douglas for a two-point conversion to put the final points of the game. The Panther defense then took over stopping Norwalk on numerous occasions to preserve the win. Coach Troy Rider said the defense did exactly what it needed to. The victory which evens Knoxville’s record at 4-4 and 2-3 in District play, sets up and interesting scenario this Friday. Knoxville needs to beat Oskaloosa and hope Carlisle beats Norwalk. If that happens, the Panthers will get their first playoff bid since 1990.
